Meeting Link
Sistacircle: Every Tuesday at 10am PT/1pm ET/5pm UTC
Sistacircle is a weekly, drop-in support group for women survivors of male violence. Rooted in feminist theory and community care, this circle is a space for healing, reflection, and resistance. Free and peer-led, it centres survivors, especially Indigenous women, in their own liberation. Join us for some consciousness raising with a twist. If you want more information, check the bottom of any Sistacircle post below for frequently asked questions!
Feminist Group Process
You are warmly invited to a circle exploring dynamics and interactions in feminist group work. We'll be sharing our thoughts on communication styles, group norms and hierarchies, handling disagreement, developing friendships and embracing personal growth.
Self-disclosure
In Carol Hanisch's essay The Personal Is Political she talks about women telling it like it is, not to solve our personal problems, but to understand that our personal problems are political problems (Hanisch, 1969).
In 2025, sharing our true thoughts, feelings and experiences may be more complicated than sharing in the tech-free era of the 70's consciousness-raising groups. In the age of knowing the internet is forever, shifting attitudes towards radical feminism, technological surveillance, and growing awareness of the impact of vicarious trauma and oversharing, we don't want to trespass on others boundaries or alienate ourselves.
Effective self-disclosures have a lot of to with our intention and personal development, as well as, other women's agreement to receive our experiential truth. In this feminist group process circle let's discuss how we currently use self-disclosures in a feminist context, what intentions/information guide how we share, and how self-disclosures can be used as a political tool.
"How we share, what we share, and when we share are just a few of the factors that can influence whether our self-disclosure is effective and appropriate" (Cherry, MSEd, 2023).
Being conscious of how we are impacting others with our sharing and practicing good boundaries is essential for using self-disclosures to enhance trust and build community in groups.
Questions To Consider
- What do self-disclosures mean to you in a feminist context?
- How do self-disclosures impact you personally? How do you believe your self-disclosures impact the women around you?
- What benefits and risks come with self-disclosures in women's groups?
- How do our personal boundaries impact our self-disclosures in person and online?
