Guidelines For Participation In Events & Other Offerings By Women's Studies Online

These guidelines apply to all participants in Women's Studies Online (WMST) activities, including members and guests (non-members).

Some of our offerings are open to everyone and some are only open to registered members of WMST. We will be sure to note if the offering is open to the public or open to WMST members only.

Feminist Code Of Participation

The purpose of Women's Studies Online is to create a space for women to gather and engage in thoughtful discussions while maintaining a baseline of privacy and respect. We strive to create an environment where women can learn from and with each other and share a diverse range of ideas and experiences within a virtual community.

Women's Studies Online also works to create spaces where women can further their thinking and build sisterhood by linking the personal and the political. Some discussions may result in disagreements and passionate debate. Our expectation for women participating is to engage with each other fairly and respectfully. This includes, for example, allowing women to speak without interruption and not personally attacking women for their views or character.

It is important to remember that there is a distinction between an experience and an analysis of that experience - while women cannot disagree with another women's experience, she can disagree with an analysis of that experience. We expect that women will refrain from judging other women and their views while engaged in a difference of opinion.

At Women’s Studies Online, we strive to create an environment where women feel comfortable engaging in meaningful ways and voicing their opinions in an honest and respectful manner.

We ask participants to turn their microphones off when not speaking.

We ask that you refrain from being under the influence of drugs or alcohol while attending our live groups and events.

Any bullying or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated in our groups, events, courses, or other offerings. Please be aware that the facilitator may turn off your microphone and/or video if need be.

If you choose not to follow our guidelines, you may be asked to withdraw your participation.
