Sistacircle takes place every Tuesday at 10am PST/1pm EST/6pm UTC
Discussion Care Note: Our circle may include conversations about male violence against women and girls. Please prioritize your well-being and take care of yourself while engaging with this material. Feeling overwhelmed is a natural response to trauma. You are encouraged to honor your needs at any time by muting, turning off your video, or stepping out of the circle without explanation. We invite sharing while being mindful of limiting graphic details—focusing on the impact of trauma can foster connection without reliving the harm. This session will close with a mindfulness breathing exercise.
Sistacircle is a weekly, drop-in educational support group for women survivors of male violence and/or the threat of male violence. Rooted in feminist theory, this circle is a space for reflection, learning, and resistance. Free and peer-led, it centres survivors in their own liberation. Join us!
Feminist Group Process
You are warmly invited to a circle exploring dynamics and interactions in feminist group work. We'll be sharing our thoughts on communication styles, group norms and hierarchies, handling disagreement, developing friendships and embracing personal growth.
International Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women And Girls
November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls. During our feminist group process hour, we will focus on exploring how to meet our needs for care, support, and safety within our communities.
Self-Care
Self-care for women can mean prioritizing our own needs instead of feeling responsible for taking care of everyone else first. It can look like saying no to plans when we need rest, or finally creating safe and healthy boundaries with family. Think less of self-care as a spa day and more as sustainable self-love rooted in healthy survival strategies.
“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation” ~ Audre Lorde
Community Care
Creating a caring community where women can truly thrive is essential for the future of our families, our communities, and our world. Women often burn out from overwork, from feeling overly responsible, and from carrying both the emotional and physical care-giving load on top of paid labour. Let’s consider how we can each contribute to nurturing a culture of shared support and collective well-being.
Mutual Aid
Offering reciprocal support—sharing goods, services, and skills—helps us meet our needs while strengthening community bonds. Many women today are choosing to step away from traditional institutions like the church or marriage, creating new spaces for connection. Let’s brainstorm ways we can invest in and collaborate with women in our communities.
Questions To Consider
- How do you balance caring for others with caring for yourself?
- What barriers—emotional, social, or practical—get in the way of caring for yourself?
- When have you felt truly supported by other women or your community? What did that support look like?
- How can women create spaces where it’s safe to ask for and receive help without judgment?
- What are small, everyday ways we can show care for the women around us?
- How can women pool skills, resources, or time to support each other effectively?
- What is one collaborative project or practice you’d like to see or start in your community?
- Are there unmet needs in your community that women could address together?
Closing with mindfulness breathing exercise
